Description
The Blue Ash Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Dispatcher. The Dis-
patcher performs a variety of routine clerical, administrative and technical work in receiving and dispatching routine
and emergency information; keeping official records; and assisting in the administration of the standard operating
policies and procedures of the dispatch center.
It is a part-time position that requires various shift assignments in accordance with maintaining a fully operational
communications facility and in supplement to the full-time dispatchers.
The dispatcher receives emergency and non-emergency re-quests for police assistance, determines nature/urgency
of calls, initiates police or other emergency personnel action and maintains close contact with field units to monitor
response and needed support requirements.
The position requires a considerable degree of initiative and independent judgment within procedural boundaries in
responding to emotional, disturbed and sometimes abusive people in a variety of situations. Work may be done
separately or in conjunction with other dispatchers and dispatchers may assist in training, teaching and basic
operational equipment management.

Required Knowledge and Skill

 Knowledge of public service activity and methods of local government
 Knowledge of computer technology and equipment
 Knowledge of law enforcement terminology and procedures
 Knowledge of geography for the City of Blue Ash and surrounding areas
 Knowledge of state and city laws
 Knowledge of English language for spelling and proper word usage
 Skill in multi-tasking,coordinating simultaneous mental, manual and visual activities
 Skill in observing situations analytically and objectively and relaying details accurately
 Skill in communicating using two way radio and telephone equipment
 Skill in operating a variety of communications equipment effectively
 Skill in reading and interpreting maps to determine locations and jurisdictional boundaries
 Ability to speak clearly and concisely
 Ability to think clearly and act quickly in emergencies
 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relation-ships with Police Department personnel, other city
employees, outside law enforcement agencies and the public
 Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
 Ability to perform cashier duties accurately

Requirements
 High school graduation or GED equivalent, preferably supplemented by business school or college courses in an
appropriate field
 Some experience as a clerk, typist, or computer operator
 Experience in dealing with the public
 Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
 Must be at least 18 years of age
 Must be a United States of America citizen
 Must have no felony convictions or convictions of an offense that would be a felony if committed in Ohio
 Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license
Additional Requirements
 Must attain and maintain certifications for access into local, state and national criminal history databases and
associated telecommunications systems after appointment
 Must satisfactorily pass a personal background investigation by law enforcement
 Must attain a notary public commission in the State of Ohio within 6 months of employment and maintain there-after

Salary
 Pay Range is $12.07 - $19.64 hourly
